VICTORIA – Claiming the program's fourth-straight national title, the University of Victoria field hockey team defeated York University, 2-1, Nov. 5 at the U SPORTS Field Hockey Championships on the UVic Field Hockey Turf.

Today's game marked the final one for head coach
Lynne Beecroft at the helm of the Vikes field hockey program. Completing her 39th season with an unbeaten 9-0-1 record, "Buzz" has been involved in all of the program's 15 national titles, culminating with the four-peat won on home turf in 2022 to send her into retirement on the highest note.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Quarter – UVic 2, York 0
- Wasting no time after being awarded a penalty corner in the first 30 seconds of play, the Vikes fed the ball to Anna Mollenhauer, who sent a centred shot to the back of the net for the 1-0 Vikes lead.
- Doubling the lead on a second penalty corner goal, the Vikes got the ball to Cara Butler waiting on the left side, sending her shot to the back right of the net in the 14th minute for the 2-0 Vikes advantage.
2nd Quarter – UVic 2, York 1
- A penalty corner awarded to York in the 25th minute gave the Lions their first goal of the weekend.
WORTH NOTING
- The Vikes claim the program's fourth-straight U SPORTS national title and 15th overall with the series win.
- Butler's goal marked her second of the year, while Mollenhauer secured her ninth in the championship-winning performance.
- Mollenhauer was selected as the Tournament MVP following the win, adding to her U SPORTS Player of the Year honour announced Nov. 4.
- Victoria finishes the year with an unbeaten 9-0-1 record in 2022, a Canada West conference title, and U SPORTS national championship banner.
