Vikes men's basketball heads to TRU for midweek series

Kamloops, B.C. – Hitting the road for a rescheduled series, the University of Victoria men's basketball team will take on Thompson Rivers University, Feb. 9-10, at the Tournament Capital Centre.

NEWS & NOTES
  • The Vikes enter the midweek series sitting in second place in the Canada West west division with an overall record of 9-1.
  • UVic is coming off two home wins over the previously undefeated UBC Thunderbirds, 90-84 and 96-89, Feb. 4-5.
  • TRU sits at 4-9 on the year, capturing two wins over UBC Okanagan, one against the University of Northern British Columbia, and one against the University of the Fraser Valley.
  • These games will be the first meetings between the Vikes and WolfPack in men's basketball this season.
  • Diego Maffia leads the Vikes in scoring, averaging 18.8 points per game, which also ranks fourth in Canada West. Matthew Ellis and Scott Kellum are also averaging double-digit performances at 16.1 and 14.5 points per game, respectively.
  • Kellum cracked the Victoria top-10 all-time career points list against the Thunderbirds, now holding eighth place with 1,150 career points in 88 games after his 38-point weekend.
  • With the midweek reschedule, the Vikes have moved their Feb. 11 matchup with the WolfPack, scheduled to take place in Victoria, to Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 5 p.m. in CARSA Performance Gym.
