Langley, B.C. – The University of Victoria women's soccer team fell in its season opener to the defending Canada West champions Trinity Western University, 3-0, Aug. 26 at Chase Office Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
48th Minute – TWU 1, UVic 0
- Charging up the right side of the field, the Spartans would find their open player in the 18-yard box for the 1-0 lead.
80th Minute – TWU 2, UVic 0
- Adding to their lead, Trinity Western upped the score to 2-0 in the final 10 minutes.
90th+2 Minute – TWU 3, UVic 0
- Capitalizing on a scramble in the box, the Spartans scored once more in added time to make the final score 3-0.
WORTH NOTING
- While the Spartans threatened right out of the gate, the Vikes cleared four TWU corner attempts in the first 20 minutes to keep the game scoreless. In all, Trinity Western recorded eight corners in the first half, all of which were successfully defended by the Vikes.
- Though the score was 0-0 at the half, the Spartans held the advantage in shots (13-2), shots on goal (8-1), and corners (8-2) after 45 minutes of play.
- Kayley Lidstone tied her career-high with eight saves in the first half (Oct. 21, 2022 vs. UBC). She finished the night with a new career-high of 13.
- At the final whistle, Trinity Western finished with the advantage in shots, 26-4, shots on goal, 16-1, and corners, 15-2.
- Erin Jensen led the Vikes with two shots, while Isabel Lambert recorded Victoria's only shot on goal attempt.
- The Vikes sit at 0-1-0 after the first game of the season, while the Spartans move to 1-0-0.
