Abbotsford, B.C. – Picking up its first point of the season, the University of Victoria women's soccer team posted a 0-0 result against the University of the Fraser Valley, Aug. 27 at Rotary Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Fraser Valley saw the first chance of the game in the seventh minute, drawing out the Vikes' defence for a look. However, the Cascades' shot went wide.
- Emma Skalik created a pair of chances in the 17th and 32nd minutes for UVic, both inside the six-yard box, but the UFV keeper would manage to make saves on both tries.
- In the second half, both sides would get free kick opportunities just outside the box, but the respective defences would manage to make the stops to keep the game scoreless.
- Kayley Lidstone would make her biggest save of the game in the 80th minute, managing to stay in control during the chaos in the box and make the save during the threat by the Cascades.
WORTH NOTING
- The last three meetings between the Vikes and Cascades have resulted in 0-0 results, while the last four matchups have ended in draws.
- The tie earned the Vikes their first point of the season, and brings their overall record to 0-1-1 after the first weekend of play.
- The Vikes finished with eight shots on the night, with five on target, while UFV finished with six shots, two of which were on frame.
- Lidstone posted three saves in her second start of the season, while also collecting her first clean sheet of the year.
- Skalik recorded a game-high three shots in the draw, while Madison Yakamovich added two for the Vikes.
