Calgary, Alta. - The University of Victoria women's field hockey team opened the 2022 Canada West season with a 9-0 shutout of the University of Calgary, Sept. 10 at Hawkings Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Quarter - UVic 4, CGY 0
- Chloe Langkammer was the first Vike to find the back of the net, scoring in the third minute for the 1-0 Vikes lead.
- In the seventh minute, Nora Struchtrup doubled UVic's lead with a goal.
- Struchtrup recorded her second goal of the game one minute later, giving the Vikes a 3-0 lead in the eighth minute.
- Jaden Dawson found the back of the net in the 14th minute to round out the first quarter goal-scorers for the Vikes and put Victoria up 4-0.
2nd Quarter - UVic 7, CGY 0
- Langkammer would once again start the scoring for the Vikes, netting a goal in the 20th minute to put the Vikes up, 5-0.
- Scoring the first Vikes hat trick of the day, Struchtrup scored in the 27th minute for her third of the game and the 6-0 Victoria lead.
- Notching a hat trick of her own, Langkammer found the back of the net in the final minute of the half to put the Vikes up, 7-0, after 30 minutes of play.
3rd Quarter - UVic 8, CGY 0
- Struchtrup notched her fourth goal of the game in the 33rd minute, putting the Vikes ahead, 8-0.
4th Quarter - UVic 9, CGY 0
- Erin Dawson found the back of the net in the 54th minute to finalize the UVic win, 9-0.
WORTH NOTING
- The victory marked the first career win and first career shutout for first-year goalkeeper Daya Shields.
- Struchtrup has already scored two-thirds of her 2021 goals total (6)Â after her four-goal performance to open the season.
- Jaden Dawson's goal in the first quarter marked the first in her career.
- The Vikes have now shutout Calgary in two-straight season openers, besting the Dinos, 6-0, to open the 2021 season.
- The Vikes start the season with a 1-0-0 record, while Calgary moves to 0-1-0 after the season-opener.
