Field hockey takes game two against Calgary

Calgary, Alta. - A second-half scoring outburst propelled the University of Victoria women's field hockey team over the University of Calgary, 7-0, Sept. 11 at Hawkings Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Quarter - UVic 1, CGY 0
  • Stefanie Sajko put the Vikes on the board early, scoring a goal on a penalty corner in fourth minute for the 1-0 UVic lead.
3rd Quarter - UVic 4, CGY 0
  • After a scoreless second quarter, Anna Mollenhauer broke through for the Vikes in the 32nd minute with her first goal of the season.
  • A minute later, Madeline Mittelsteadt scored a goal of her own in the 33rd minute.
  • Scoring her first goal of the day, Libby Hogg found the back of the net in the 45th minute for the 4-0 Vikes lead after three quarters of play.
4th Quarter - UVic 7, CGY 0
  • Anni Kleinschmidt made the score 5-0 for the Vikes with a goal in the 48th minute.
  • Hogg scored her second goal of the game off a penalty corner chance in the 58th minute.
  • Also notching her second goal of the day was Kleinschmidt, who found the back of the net in the 60th minute off a penalty corner to seal the 7-0 win for Victoria.
WORTH NOTING
  • The Vikes outscored Calgary 16-0 in two games.
  • First-year goalkeeper Daya Shields has posted two shutouts in her first two games as a Vike.
  • The Vikes registered five different goal-scorers in the win, all different than the four scorers from game one.
  • Through two games, the Vikes have had nine different goal-scorers, four of which have scored two-or-more goals.
  • UVic has now won the last nine-straight meetings with the Dinos, dating back to Sept. 22, 2019.
  • The Vikes sit at 2-0 after the first weekend of play, while the Dinos fall to 0-2.
