Duncan, B.C. – Bouncing back after a tie in game one, the University of Victoria field hockey team defeated the University of British Columbia, 4-1, Sept. 25 at Cowichan Sportsplex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Quarter – UBC 1, UVic 0
- A goal in the seventh minute by UBC put the Thunderbirds in front.
2nd Quarter – UVic 2, UBC 1
- Stefanie Sajko equalized for the Vikes in the 18th minute, finding the rebound on Julia Boraston's initial shot for the goal.
- Putting UVic in front, Erin Dawson found the back of the net in the 20th minute.
3rd Quarter – UVic 4, UBC 1
- After Georgia Booker started the attack down the sideline and brought it into the circle, she found Cara Butler who put the ball in the back of the net for the 3-1 Vikes lead in the 39th minute.
- Sealing the win for the Vikes, Nora Struchtrup scored her sixth goal of the season in the 43rd minute off a penalty corner, finalizing the score at 4-1 in favour of the Vikes.
WORTH NOTING
- Scoring her sixth goal of the season, Struchtrup has matched her 2021 season goal total.
- UBC's goal in the first quarter marked the first time the Vikes have trailed in a game in 2022.
- Sajko and Dawson notched their second goals of the season in the win, while Butler recorded her first of the year.
- UVic moves to 3-0-1 on the season with the win, while UBC drops to 2-1-1.
