Prince George, B.C. – The University of Victoria women's soccer team downed the University of Northern British Columbia, 4-1, Sept. 25 at Masich Place.
HOW IT HAPPENED
18th Minute – UVic 1, UNBC 0
- Sailing the ball between two UNBC defenders, Ruby Nicholas' shot went to the back of the net to give the Vikes the 1-0 lead.
37th Minute – UVic 1, UNBC 1
- A corner by the Timberwolves resulted in a header goal for the equalizer.
56th Minute – UVic 2, UNBC 1
- Taking advantage of a misplay by the UNBC goalkeeper, Nicholas was able to get the ball and send it over the line of the open net to put the Vikes back in front.
65th Minute – UVic 3, UNBC 1
- Taking a free kick from 25 yards out, Emma Skalik arced the ball to the top centre of the goal for her first of the year.
85th Minute – UVic 4, UNBC 1
- Emma Dewit registered her first goal of the year off a cross-like shot from the top right corner of the box, finding the top left corner of the goal and seal the Vikes' win, 4-1.
WORTH NOTING
- After her brace, Nicholas now leads the Vikes with four goals on the season.
- Skalik and Dewit each recorded their first goals of the year in the win.
- Rheana Desjardins picked up her first career point as a Vike, getting credited with the assist on the first goal of the game.
- The four-goal performance marked the highest-scoring game by the Vikes so far in 2022.
- UNBC finished the game with the 14-10 advantage in shots, but Victoria had the 9-5 shots on goal edge.
- UVic was not awarded a corner during the 90 minutes of play, while the Timberwolves earned five.
- Kayley Lidstone notched four saves in the win.
- The Vikes improve to 3-4-2 on the season, while the Timberwolves drop to 2-5-1.
