VICTORIA – A first-half goal proved to be enough for the University of Victoria women's soccer team as it shutout Thompson Rivers University, 1-0, Sept. 30 at Centennial Stadium.
NATIONAL DAY FOR TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION
- Today, Sept. 30, 2022, marked the second National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada.
- Also known as Orange Shirt Day, it is a national movement that brings together Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in the spirit of hope and reconciliation, and honours former residential school students, their families and communities.
- Prior to the match, both teams and those in attendance participated in a moment of silence to honour the victims and survivors of the residential schools, their families, and communities.
HOW IT HAPPENED

- In a foot race with the TRU goalkeeper near the top of the box, Sophie Murphy was in place to corral the ball that passed through the hands of the WolfPack keeper, sending it to the back of the net for the Vikes lead.
WORTH NOTING
- The game-winning goal was also the first career goal for Murphy, who is in her first season with the Vikes.
- A five-save effort from Kayley Lidstone earned the third-year her fourth shutout of the season.
- Victoria out-shot Thompson Rivers 11-8 after 90 minutes of play, also grabbing the 7-5 edge in shots on goal. TRU finished with an 8-3 advantage in corners.
- UVic improves to 4-4-2 with the win, while the WolfPack moves to 4-3-2 on the year.
