VICTORIA – The University of Victoria men's basketball team claimed the Friday night victory over the University of Northern British Columbia, 98-76, Jan. 13 inside CARSA Performance Gym.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Four points from Renoldo Robinson, two from Diego Maffia and two from Dominick Oliveri gave the Vikes an early 8-2 lead, but the Timberwolves would quickly come back and pull within one, 8-7, with 6:04 to play in the first quarter.
- Managing to stay in front of UNBC, the Vikes held the 24-17 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.
- A Maffia three with 5:12 until halftime gave Victoria its first double-digit lead of the game, 42-30.
- The Timberwolves would bring UVic's lead back to single digits, 50-42, at the half.
- Keeping it close in the third, the Vikes finished the quarter with a 66-59 lead.
- Pulling away in the fourth quarter, the Vikes outscored UNBC 32-17 to capture the 98-76 win.
WORTH NOTING
- Robinson led the Vikes with a season-high 27 points, adding eight rebounds, two steals and one assist in the win.
- Maffia recorded 22 points in the win, draining four three-pointers.
- Oliveri's 16 points and 13 rebounds marked his fifth double-double of the season.
- The Vikes improve to 11-2 with the win, while UNBC moves to 5-6 with the loss.
