VICTORIA - The University of Victoria women's field hockey team completed a perfect home weekend with a 5-0 shutout of the University of Calgary, Oct. 1 on the UVic Field Hockey Turf.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Getting the Vikes on the board in the third minute, Libby Hogg capitalized on a penalty corner opportunity to give UVic a 1-0 lead.
- Hogg struck again in the 24th minute on a second penalty corner, putting the Vikes ahead, 2-0.
- Adding to the Vikes' lead before the half, Madeline Mittelsteadt recorded her first goal of the year in the 28th minute, giving Victoria a 3-0 lead at halftime.
- The opening play of the second half featured Amanda Adams tearing down the field, scoring in the 31st minute for the 4-0 lead.
- Adding one final goal at the start of the fourth quarter, Nora Struchtrup put the ball in the back of the net in the 41st minute to seal the Vikes' win, 5-0.
WORTH NOTING
- Anais Chace and the Vikes' defence have recorded two-straight shutouts after allowing no goals to Dinos today.
- Hogg and Mittelsteadt each registered their first goals of the year in the win, while Adams and Struchtrup each recorded their second of the season.
- The five UVic goals mark the most for the Vikes in a single game this season.
- The Vikes improve to 3-1-2 on the season with the win, while the Dinos move to 2-2-2 after six games.
