Langley, B.C. – The University of Victoria women's soccer team defeated Trinity Western University on the road for the first time since the 2013 season, 1-0, Oct. 14 at Chase Office Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Though the first half of play ended with both sides scoreless, Emma Skalik nearly broke through in the 28th minute, but was stopped by a last-minute TWU tackle that forced her left and sent her shot wide.
- In the 61st minute, Ruby Nicholas broke away near midfield with the ball, getting herself into the box and making a quick pass over to the top of the six-yard box where Erin Jensen connected for the game-winner, sealing the Vikes' win, 1-0.
WORTH NOTING
- The win marks UVic's first over Trinity Western since the 2018 season, and first in Langley since 2013.
- Jensen's goal marked her seventh of the season and third in the last four games.
- The seven goals by Jensen now mark the most on the Vikes.
- Lidstone recorded three saves in the Vikes' sixth shutout of the year.
- Trinity Western out-shot Victoria 18-12 overall, but UVic finished with the 6-3 advantage in shots on target.
- The Vikes finish the Canada West regular season campaign with an 8-4-2 record, while the Spartans finish at 9-2-3.
