VICTORIA - The University of Victoria and University of British Columbia field hockey teams battled to a 0-0 finish, Oct. 21 on the newly-named Lynne "Buzz" Beecroft Field. The Vikes came away with the 4-3 victory in the penalty shootout.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• After three scoreless quarters to open the game, Nora Struchtrup nearly saw the game-winner for the Vikes in the final minutes of the fourth, but a stop by the Thunderbirds defenders kept the game scoreless to force a shootout.
• Anni Kleinschmidt, Madeline Mittelsteadt, Antonia Diuana Hodar and Libby Hogg each scored for the Vikes in the penalty shootout while Anais Chace made two saves to win the shootout for the Vikes, 4-3.

WORTH NOTING

• The shootout was the Vikes' third of the season, and second shootout win.
• Chace and the Vikes' defence have now recorded three shutouts on the year.
• UBC became first team to shutout the Vikes in a game this season.
• The Vikes move to 3-1-3 with the tie, while UBC goes to 3-3-1 after the result.
