VICTORIA – The University of Victoria men's basketball team begins its 2022 conference championship defence in the Canada West quarterfinals, Feb. 18 inside CARSA Performance Gym. The Vikes will take on Friday night's winner of UNBC versus Regina.

- Entering the tournament ranked as the No. 1 team in the league, the Vikes finished the Canada West regular season with 17-3 record as well as the No. 1 ranking in U SPORTS' latest Top 10 poll.
- The Vikes are coming off a 90-82 win and 94-92 overtime win over UBC, Feb. 9-11, to close out the regular season.
- Regina holds the eight seed with a 10-10 regular season finish, while UNBC is seeded ninth with a regular season record of 8-12.
- Facing both teams in the regular season, the Vikes opened the new year with 82-78 and 91-67 wins over Regina in Saskatchewan, Jan. 6-7, and captured 98-76 and 129-89 wins over UNBC, Jan. 13-14 at CARSA Performance Gym.
- The Vikes defeated Regina, 74-62, in Edmonton, Alta. in the Canada West semifinals en route to their 2022 championship title.
- Diego Maffia was named the Canada West & U SPORTS Player of the Week for the second time this season, Feb. 14-15, after a 73-point weekend against UBC.
- Maffia's 24.9 points per game average leads U SPORTS and Canada West, while the 12.7 rebounds per game average from Dominick Oliveri leads the conference and ranks third in the nation.
