Calgary, Alta. – The University of Victoria field hockey team opened its 2023 campaign with a 1-1 draw against the University of Calgary, Sept. 16 at Hawkings Field. The Vikes claimed the bonus point after a 3-0 shootout win over the Dinos.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first half, the Vikes put the first goal of the game on the board in the third quarter, with Amanda Adams beating the Calgary goalkeeper on the right side to score in the 40th minute and put Victoria in front, 1-0.
- Equalizing in the final minute, a penalty corner opportunity for Calgary resulted in a goal to bring the score to 1-1 at the end of regulation time.
- Heading to a shootout to award a bonus point for the standings, the Vikes came away with the 3-0 shootout win with Melanie Robertson, Nora Struchtrup, and Madeline Mittelsteadt each scoring and Anais Chace making three-straight stops in net.

- The Dinos' goal marks the first goal the Vikes have conceded to Calgary since the 2021 season.
- Adams' goal marked her first as a Vike.
- UVic won its first regular-season shootout since the 2021 season, a 4-1 shootout win after a 1-1 tie against UBC, Oct. 23, 2021.
