Calgary, Alta. - The University of Victoria field hockey team tied the University of Calgary for the second-straight game, this time with a score of 2-2, Sept. 17 at Hawkings Field. The Dinos came away with the bonus point in the shootout, 5-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Melanie Robertson put the Vikes on the board first, beating the Dinos goalkeeper to put the Vikes ahead 1-0 in the 20th minute.
- A penalty corner awarded to Calgary in the 38th minute was capitalized on by the Dinos, tying the game 1-1.
- Early in the third quarter, Chloe Langkammer put the Vikes ahead once again, sending her shot to the back of the net for the 2-1 Victoria lead in the 43rd minute.
- In similar fashion to the game played one day ago, a penalty corner awarded to the Dinos in the final minute of play resulted in a Calgary goal to tie the game, 2-2, at the end of regulation and commence a shootout.
- Madeline Mittelsteadt, Antonia Diuana Hodar and Nora Struchtrup all scored for UVic during the initial five rounds of the shootout, matching Calgary's three goals. Struchtrup scored a second time during sudden death for the Vikes, but the Dinos came away with the 5-4 shootout win.
WORTH NOTING
- No field goals were conceded to Calgary over the two-game weekend, as all three Dinos goals were scored on penalty corner opportunities.Â
- Robertson and Langkammer each netted their first goal of the season.
- The Vikes sit at 0-0-2 after their first weekend of play, while the Dinos sit at 0-1-3 after the weekend.
