Comeback goal from Nicholas secures point for Vikes against MacEwan

Edmonton, Alta. - The previously 6-0-0 MacEwan University Griffins were handed their first draw of 2023 by the University of Victoria women's soccer team, who came back to secure a point on the road with a 1-1 tie at Clarke Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A seven-save first half from goalkeeper Kayley Lidstone allowed the game to go into halftime scoreless.
  • The Griffins struck first, scoring in the 50th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Not three minutes later did Ruby Nicholas seize her moment, intercepting a pass from the MacEwan defenders and breaking away, shooting the ball from just above the penalty spot and sending it past the Griffins keeper for the equalizer, 1-1.
  • Keeping MacEwan off the board for the remainder of the match, the Vikes came away with a point after the final score of 1-1.
