Women's soccer records first shutout of the season against Manitoba

VICTORIA – The University of Victoria women's soccer team recorded its first clean sheet of the season against the University of Manitoba, 2-0, Sept. 22 at Centennial Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After chances in the 28th and 38th minutes for the Vikes didn't produce a goal, Victoria was able to breakthrough in the 42nd minute. Taking the Bisons goalkeeper one-on-one, Ruby Nicholas had her first shot saved before a deflection of her second shot found Erin Jensen, who put it into the net for the 1-0 Vikes lead right before the half.
  • Doubling their lead in the 69th minute, a free kick for the Vikes in prime position found the head of Kara Skirzyk, who managed to get the ball to Jensen for her second goal of the night and make the score 2-0 for the Vikes.
  • Keeping the Bisons off the board over the final 20 minutes, Victoria came away with the 2-0 win.
WORTH NOTING
  • The victory marked the first shutout of the season for Kayley Lidstone and the Vikes' defence. Lidstone recorded two saves in the win.
