Kelowna, B.C. – The University of Victoria men's soccer team defeated the University of British Columbia Okanagan, 1-0, Sept. 2 at Nonis Sports Field to complete a two-win opening weekend.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Nearly parallel with the goal line inside the box, Aiden Grew found Javier Sagaste near top of the box, who launched a shot past the UBCO keeper for the game-winning goal in the 21st minute and 1-0 Vikes lead.
WORTH NOTING
- The Vikes finished the match leading the Heat in shots (18-6), shots on goal (8-1), and corner kicks (8-3).
- Callum Weir recorded one save in the win, also posting his second shutout in as many games.
- The wins against Thompson Rivers and UBCO mark the first time the Vikes have won both their opening weekend matchups since the 2019 season.
- Victoria holds a 2-0-0 record after its opening weekend, while UBCO moves to 1-3-0 through four games.
