Vikes shutout Timberwolves in Friday night matchup

VICTORIA – The University of Victoria women's soccer team posted its third-straight shutout in a 1-0 win over the University of Northern British Columbia, Sept. 29 at Centennial Stadium.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A slow start for both teams, the Vikes created a series of chances in the final five minutes of the first half, including a header from Sophie Fingarson that went off the crossbar, but couldn't get the ball over the line, sending the game into halftime scoreless.
  • Brianne McLeish netted the game-winner in the 86th minute, taking the ball sent in by Erin Jensen and sending it through the legs of the diving UNBC keeper to seal the Vikes' win, 1-0.
WORTH NOTING
  • McLeish's goal was her second of the season.
  • Kayley Lidstone registered two saves in her second shutout of the season.
  • The Vikes posted their third-straight shutout with the 1-0 victory.
  • Victoria out-shot UNBC 15-2 overall and 7-2 in shots on goal.
  • The Vikes improve to 5-3-2 on the season with the win, while the Timberwolves fall to 0-8-1 with the loss.
