VICTORIA – The University of Victoria women's soccer team fell to Trinity Western University, 4-1, Sept. 8 at Centennial Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trinity Western was awarded a penalty kick in the 16th minute, but Kayley Lidstone made the save to keep the game scoreless.
- The Spartans would get on the scoreboard in the 20th minute, 1-0, and added a second goal to their lead via free kick 10 minutes later to take a 2-0 lead in the 30th minute.
- Subbing on at the half, Brianne McLeish cut TWU's lead to one, 2-1, with a 51st minute goal from the penalty spot, sent to the back right of the net after securing the deflection of Sydney Casidy's initial shot.
- Two more goals from Trinity Western in the 64th and 81st minutes finalized the game score at 4-1 in favour of the visiting Spartans.
WORTH NOTING
- McLeish's goal marked her first as a Vike.
- Lidstone recorded a season-high seven saves against the Spartans.
- Both point-getters for the Vikes subbed on the half.
- TWU out-shot UVic 15-9 overall and 11-7 in shots on goal, while also holding a 14-5 edge in corner kicks over the Vikes.
- With the win, Trinity Western improves to 2-1-1 on the year, while the Vikes move to 2-2-0 with the setback.
