Swim takes first, second against Simon Fraser

VICTORIA  - The University of Victoria swimming teams finished first on the women's side and second on the men's side against Simon Fraser University, Jan. 27 at Saanich Commonwealth Place.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Starting off the meet with some distance events, the Vikes finished second in both the women's 800 free and men's 1500 free events, with Corah Wilson finishing second on the women's side with a time of 9:08.54, and William Risk taking second on the men's side at 15:58.97.
  • Sweeping the 50 back events, Emma Cabral took the women's event title with a 30.16 showing, while Jacob Rambo was the top finisher on the men's side at 27.39.
  • Leading the Vikes with three wins, coming in the women's 400 IM, 50 breast, and 200 breast was Erin Epp, who won the 400 IM with a time of 4:56.28, the 50 breast with a time of 32.67 and the 200 breast with a 2:36.71 showing.
  • Notching a win in the men's 100 fly was Paul Neupert, who swam 56.75 to take the top spot.
  • Putting together a women's 200 fly podium sweep, Kate MacLean took first place with a 2:22.28 showing, followed by Isabella Brunoro in second place at 2:25.47, and Georgia Romstead in third with a time of 2:26.20.
  • Earning his second win in as many meets was Elijah Agostinelli Stull, who took first in the 200 free with a time of 1:51.52. He posted a second win in the men's 400 free with a 3:58.37 mark.
  • Adding a podium sweep in the women's 100 breast, the trio of Lily Sheridan (29.41), Shanna Tierney (30.13), and Emma Cabral (30.42) finished first, second, and third, respectively, for the Vikes.
  • Adding wins for the Vikes were Taylor Smith (100 breast – 1:14.96), Ricky Millns (50 free – 23.24), and Isabella Brunoro (200 IM – 2:26.80).
  • Grabbing a pair of 400 free relay wins, the men's team of Matthew MacDonald, Rambo, Millns, and Agostinelli Stull took the win with a 3:33.19 effort, while the women's squad of Cabral, MacLean, McCallum, and Sienna Cyca-Loree finished in the top spot with a 3:58.22 performance. 
  • The Vikes finished first as a team on the women's side by a score of 173-154 and second on the men's side by a score of 186.5-141.5.
