Toronto, Ont. – The University of Victoria field hockey team opened the 2024 U SPORTS championships with a 2-0 win over OUA champion University of Waterloo, Oct. 31 at York University.

Third quarter penalty stroke puts the Vikes on the board
- With a stroke awarded to the Victoria in the 39th minute, Anni Kleinschmidt stepped up to the spot to take it for the Vikes. Firing her shot straight past the Waterloo keeper on the left side, Kleinschmidt put the Vikes in front, 1-0.
Fourth quarter corner seals Vikes win
- Capitalizing on a short corner opportunity at the start of the fourth quarter, Sadie Lee was in position to corral the rebound from the initial saved shot, quickly depositing it over the line to seal the 2-0 win for the Vikes in the 47th minute.
WORTH NOTING
- Anni Kleinschmidt netted the game winner for the Vikes via penalty stroke for the second-straight game, also doing so at UBC, Oct. 20.
- Sadie Lee's goal marks her fourth of the season for the Vikes.
- The shutout marks the seventh of the year for Victoria and Anais Chace.
- Victoria moves to 6-1-2 on the year with the win.
