Vikes take 2-0 lead in first quarter
Victoria doubles their lead before the half
- Madeline Mittelsteadt started the Vikes' 17th minute scoring opportunity by driving into the circle along the end line. Reaching the right post, she sent a quick pass to Amanda Adams, who took one touch and snuck her shot past the diving Calgary goalkeeper to give the Vikes a 3-0 lead.
- Fighting with the Calgary defender for the ball, Chloe Langkammer was able to come away with it and fire off her shot fromt the top of the circle to the back left of the net for the 4-0 Vikes lead in the 26th minute. The Vikes would hold a four-goal lead after two quarters of play.
Vikes add two more in the thirdÂ
- Moving the ball towards the Calgary goal, Josie Dunham was on the receiving end of Maeve Connorton's pass, getting the ball and driving into the circle to take the Calgary goalkeeper one-on-one and score the Vikes' fifth goal of the day in the 37th minute.
- Scoring in almost identical fashion five minutes later, Connorton got her shot off and sent it to the back left corner of the net for the 6-0 Vikes lead in the 42nd minute.
Kleinschmidt adds one in the fourth
- Awarded a penalty corner in the 47th minute, Langkammer's shot went straight off the Calgary defender's stick to Anni Kleinschmidt, who slipped the ball between the Calgary defender and goalkeeper to get it over the line and seal the 7-0 win for the Vikes.
FROM THE FIELD - Head coach Krista Thompson
"I thought we started out a little slow in the first five minutes. I thought Calgary came out with a lot of pressure, which we didn't particularly respond well to. As the quarter went on and we got things sorted and started to play our hockey game by moving the ball and dribbling less, things started to flow nicely for us. I can't say there was any individual performance that stuck out, which is always nice and the mark of a good team performance. Everyone played their role and played them well."
