Toronto, Ont. - The University of Victoria field hockey team defeated the University of Prince Edward Island, 5-0, on the second day of the U SPORTS field hockey championship at the York University, Nov. 1.

Kleinschmidt gives Vikes the lead at halftime
- With two minutes to go until halftime, Anni Kleinschmidt connected on a Vikes corner for the 1-0 Vikes lead, which would hold into halftime.Â
Vikes add two to lead in third quarter
- Sadie Lee opened the third quarter scoring for the Vikes, connecting on a long pass into the circle right by the UPEI goalkeeper to swipe it over the line for the 2-0 Vikes lead in the 36th minute.
- Two minutes later, a Vikes corner led to Jaden Dawson's first goal of the tournament, giving the Vikes a 3-0 lead.
Dawson, Adams connect to seal win for the Vikes
- A long roller of a shot from Dawson in the 56th minute starting from the left side and ending in the back right of the net gave the Vikes a 4-0 lead in the 56th minute.
- In the 58th minute, Dawson stole the ball from the Panther defender at the top of the circle and got it to Amanda Adams, who fired off a shot while diving that went to the back of the net to seal the 5-0 win for the Vikes.
WORTH NOTING
- Anni Kleinschmidt has now scored for the Vikes in each of the last three games, with all three goals being the game-winners.
- Sadie Lee has scored in both tournament games for the Vikes this championship, while Jaden Dawson and Amanda Adams each scored their firsts of the national tournament.
- The Vikes have posted two-straight shutouts to open the U SPORTS championship, bringing their total to eight on the season. Anais Chace started the game and got the win in net, but Talia Pike made her Vikes debut in the fourth quarter to help close out the shutout for the Vikes.
- Victoria moves to 7-1-2 on the year with the win.
