Vikes shutout by Gee-Gees in national championship quarterfinal

Halifax, N.S. – The University of Victoria women's soccer team fell to the University of Ottawa, 5-0, Nov. 7 in the quarterfinal round of the U SPORTS women's soccer championship at Dalhousie University.
 
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Olcen, Nicholas nearly put Vikes on the board
  • A Vikes corner kick in the 20th minute was headed by Sophie Olcen inside the box, but the Ottawa goalkeeper was able to get in front of it to make the save and keep the game scoreless.
  • Looking for the equalizer in the 42nd minute, Ruby Nicholas drove up the field and fired off a shot from the top right of the box, but it went directly to the keeper for the save.
Gee-Gees take 2-0 lead at the end of the first half
  • Ottawa went up 1-0 in the 36th minute, after an unintentional hand ball called on the Vikes gave the Gee-Gees a penalty kick which they successfully converted.
  • Doubling their lead as the clock hit 45 minutes, the Gee-Gees held a 2-0 lead heading in to halftime.
Ottawa scores three times in final half
  • Goals in the 50th, 61st, and 76th minutes by Ottawa brought the final score to 5-0 in favour of the OUA champions.
WORTH NOTING
  • The Gee-Gees out-shot the Vikes, 13-4, and 9-3 in shots on goal.
  • Kayley Lidstone recorded four saves, while the Ottawa keeper finished with two.
  • The Vikes move to 9-4-5 on the year with the loss.
