Men's soccer takes down Saskatchewan

VICTORIA –  The University of Victoria men's soccer team defeated the University of Saskatchewan, 3-0, Sept. 15 at Centennial Stadium.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Moody strikes twice before halftime
  • The Vikes found the back of the net in the 20th minute. On a Javier Sagaste corner kick, a backward pass by Ole Cameron found Alex Moody, who connected with it inside the six-yard box for the 1-0 Victoria lead.
  • Doubling the lead in the 44th minute, Moody notched his second goal of the match after dribbling through Saskatchewan defenders to the top of the box, firing off his shot to give the Vikes a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Keshavarz scores first goal as a Vike
  • Takin Keshavarz sealed the 3-0 win for the Vikes as the clock hit 90 minutes, meeting a pass from Jack Napier-Ganley in the middle of the box and sending it past the Saskatchewan goalkeeper to mark his first goal in a Vikes uniform.
Vikes defence posts fifth clean sheet of the year
  • The shutout of the Huskies marked the Vikes' fifth clean sheet of the season.
FROM THE FIELD - Alex Moody
On the game:
"I think we had a really strong first half, possessed the ball well, and scoring early is always ideal. We were able to get a clean sheet- I don't think they [Saskatchewan] got many chances- so we kept it tight in the back. Overall, it was a really good team performance."

On his goals:
"The first one I didn't really expect, and it was a nice team play on the second one. Who doesn't love scoring, right? It felt really good. It's also nice to score at home before we go on a string of away games. Overall super happy."

WORTH NOTING
  • Alex Moody's goals marked his firsts of the year, while Takin Keshavarz scored the first goal of his Vikes career.
  • Victoria moves to 5-0-2 on the year with the win, while Saskatchewan drops to 2-5-0 with the loss.
