Kamloops, B.C. – The University of Victoria women's soccer team began their weekend road swing with a 1-1 draw against Thompson Rivers University, Sept. 20 at Hillside Stadium.
Sophies connect to put the Vikes on the board
- Following a scoreless first half, it took the Vikes less than three minutes into the new frame to find the back of the net. Sophie Murphy caught up with the tail end of Sophie Fingarson's pass, striking from the top centre of the box and sending the ball high, making it over the reaching TRU goalkeeper's hands for the 1-0 Vikes lead in the 48th minute.
TRU ties it five minutes later
- Thompson Rivers scored on a corner kick opportunity in the 53rd minute to bring the score to 1-1.
Nicholas nearly equalizes
- Ruby Nicholas nearly put the game-winner in the back of the net for the Vikes in the 59th minute, but her shot was just a touch too high, hitting the crossbar and staying out of the net. The game would remain tied at 1-1 for the final 30 minutes of action.
WORTH NOTING
- The Vikes out-shot the WolfPack 12-5, and 5-3 in shots on goal.
- Kayley Lidstone registered two saves in net.
- Sophie Murphy's goal marks her third of the season and sets a new season-high goal total for Murphy (previous high was two goals set in 2022-23).
- The Vikes move to 3-1-2 on the year after the draw, while TRU moves to 2-3-1.
