Vikes battle Heat to 1-1 result

Kelowna, B.C. – The University of Victoria women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with the University of British Columbia Okanagan, Sept. 21 at Nonis Sports Field.
 
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Lidstone keeps the Heat off the board early
  • Vikes goalkeeper Kayley Lidstone made two saves in the first half to keep the Heat under control, highlighted by a 14th-minute save followed up by excellent coverage to force UBCO to send their second-chance shot wide and get the ball back in the Vikes' possession.
Vikes get Scorey at top of second half
  • Taiya Scorey needed just two minutes in to the second half to get the Vikes on the board. On a Vikes corner kick, Ruby Nicholas' service ping-ponged off the UBCO defender then Sophie Fingarson, leading Scorey to connect on the bounce and send it over the line for the 1-0 Vikes lead in the 47th minute.
Heat score equalizer
  • UBCO tied the game with a goal in the 63rd minute. The score would remain in place until the final whistle, resulting in a 1-1 draw. 
WORTH NOTING
  • Kayley Lidstone recorded six saves in the second half to total eight on the night, setting a new season-high.
  • Taiya Scorey's goal marked her second of the season.
  • Sophie Fingarson's assist marked her fourth of the season, moving her into a tie for the top spot on the Canada West assist leaderboard.  
  • The Heat finished the night with 18 shots to the Vikes' five.
  • Victoria moves to 3-1-3 on the year with the tie, while UBCO now sits at 3-3-1.
