VICTORIA - The University of Victoria men's basketball team completed the weekend sweep with an 85-76 win over Trinity Western University, Jan. 11 at CARSA Performance Gym.

Back-and-forth first half results in halftime Spartans lead
- The game's scoring was opened by a Trinity Western three, but met by an Ethan Boag jumper, Shadynn Smid layup, and Griffin Arnatt three for the 7-3 Vikes lead with 8:40 to go in the opening quarter.
- Though the Spartans took a 19-16 lead with 2:26 to play, a three from Sam Maillet brought the score back even, 19-19, with just under two minutes to go in the first.
- Trading points over the final seconds, a pair of Renoldo Robinson free throws brought Trinity's lead down to two, 26-24, at the end of the first quarter.
- The visiting side's lead grew to six to start the second quarter, but a three from Smid and a Ryan Gallagher jumper brought the Vikes back within one, 32-31, with six minutes to play until halftime.
- A 9-1 run for the Spartans to end the second quarter brought the visiting side's lead to 44-36 at halftime.Â
Vikes take the lead in the third, remain in front through the fourth
- The Spartans made it a 10-point game in their first possession of the third quarter, 46-36, but a quick scoring series from a Boag layup and three's by Arnatt and Geoffrey James pulled UVic back within two, 46-44, with 7:35 to go.
- After a pair of free throws by Robinson and another Arnatt three pulled the Vikes within one, 51-50, James hit a three to put the Vikes on top, 53-51, with 4:51 to go.
- Finishing the quarter on an 8-0 run with five points from James and a Gallagher three put the Vikes ahead by a score of 65-57 at the end of the third. Victoria outscored Trinity Western 29-13 in the third quarter.
- Arnatt gave the Vikes a double-digit lead in the opening seconds of the fourth quarter, 67-57. A three from Boag and jumper by Aaron Tesfagiorgis added to Victoria's lead, 74-59, with 7:23 to go in the final quarter.
- The Vikes maintained a double-digit lead for all but the final minute of the fourth quarter, closing the out the 85-76 win.
 WORTH NOTING
- Geoffrey James led the Vikes with a season-high 16 points, adding six rebounds and three assists in the win.
- Ethan Boag and Griffin Arnatt each tallied 15 points, with Arnatt also leading the Vikes in rebounds with seven. Â
- Sam Maillet led the Vikes with a season-high eight assists, also contributing three points, five rebounds, and one block.
- The Vikes improve to 10-0 on the year with the win, while the Spartans fall to 4-7.
