Charlottetown, P.E.I. – The University of Victoria women's field hockey tied with the OUA Champions, York University, 0-0 in their first game of the U SPORTS Championship Oct. 30, hosted by the University of P.E.I. The University of Victoria are looking to win its seventh straight national title, third under the leadership of Head Coach
Krista Thompson.

Quiet first half
	- The first half consisted of defensive units playing strongly as neither team could find any offensive momentum.
- The half was played mostly in the midfield as each offensive opportunity was met with a defensive clear, stopping all the offensive flow.
Neither offence was able to find success in the second half.
	- More of the same defensive dominance in the second half. Both squads had opportunities off penalty corners, but the defenders stood tall to deny the scoring opportunities.
- Defenders Libby Hogg and Maeve Connorton blocked key opportunities to shut down the Lions' scoring chances.
- Anais Chace once again proved why she was awarded Canada West Goalie of the Year honours as she blanked York for her first postseason shutout this season.
Maeve Connorton, the fourth-year defender, was awarded the Nike Player of the Game for her strong defensive efforts in shutting down the Lions' offence.

The Vikes will play in the second game of their round-robin as they face Dalhousie, Oct. 31 at 8:00 a.m. PT.
