Victoria, BC – The University of Victoria bested the University of British Columbia Okanagan 67-47 for their first win of the season, Oct. 31, at CARSA Performance Gym.
Vikes put the pressure on early
- The Vikes came out hot as they jumped out to an early lead over the Heat. The first quarter ended with the Vikes playing tenacious defence and dominating the glass as they were ahead 18-7.
- The Heat began to pick it up as their shots began to fall in the second quarter, they cut into what once was up to a Vikes' 20-point lead.
- The first half was highlighted by Abigail Becker as she shot 4-5 from the field for a Vikes-high nine points. Makena Anderson dominated on the glass as she corralled 6 rebounds.
- The Vikes headed to the locker room with a 33-22 halftime lead over the Heat.
Vikes never relinquished the lead
- The Vikes played strongly in the second half, limiting UBCO to 25 total points.
- The game was put away with the Vikes' fourth quarter play as they held the Heat to nine points while scoring 15 of their own.
- Becker continued her strong play as she finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Notables:
- With the win, the Vikes break into the win column and push their record to 1-2. The Heat will fall to 2-1 with the loss.
- Abigail Becker recorded her first double-double of the season.
The Vikes will return to action in a rematch with UBCO, Nov. 1, again at CARSA Performance Gym.
