Vikes complete road sweep of Pronghorns

Lethbridge, Alta. – The University of Victoria men's basketball team completed the weekend series sweep of the University of Lethbridge with an 83-67 road victory, Feb. 1.
 
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Vikes jump to early lead, Pronghorns make comeback in second
  • Working to build a lead from the start, a three from Ethan Boag followed by a Sam Maillet layup gave the Vikes a 9-4 lead with 6:36 to go in the first quarter.
  • Buckets from Ryan Gallagher, Geoffrey James and Griffin Arnatt marked a quick Vikes run for the 17-8 lead with 2:16 remaining in the first.
  • An and-one by Gallagher was met with a Lethbridge jumper at the buzzer to bring the Vikes' lead to 20-12 at the end of the first.
  • The Pronghorns began to cut into the Vikes lead in the second quarter, leading to a game-tying three pointer at the 6:08 mark, 24-24.
  • After a two minute scoreless stretch for both sides, both sides traded baskets until a Dylan Gage three and Renoldo Robinson layup with 12 seconds left put the Vikes ahead, 34-32, at halftime.
Vikes restore double-digit lead in third
  • Starting to separate from the Pronghorns in the third, layups from Boag and Gallgher followed by a James free throw gave the Vikes a nine-point advantage, 47-38, with under five minutes to go in the third.
  • Four points from Robinson and a Maillet layup pushed the Vikes' lead to 53-41 with just over two minutes to play in the third frame, leading the way for a 59-46 Vikes lead at the end of the third.
Victoria's lead reaches 20 en route to closing out win
  • Not letting up in the final quarter of play, a successful three point play from Robinson put the Vikes ahead by 20, 68-48, with 6:15 still on the clock.
  • The Vikes controlled the remainder of the game, coming away with the 83-67 win at the final buzzer.
WORTH NOTING
  • Renoldo Robinson led the Vikes' offence with 20 points, followed by 13 from Ryan Gallagher, 12 from Dylan Gage to tie his season-high, 11 from Geoffrey James, and 10 from Sam Maillet.
  • Maillet led the Vikes in rebounds with nine on the night, adding two assists, two steals, and two blocks to his statline in the win.
  • James led the Vikes in assists (6) and steals (3) in the win
  • The Vikes improve to 16-0 on the year with the win, while Lethbridge falls to 10-6 following the loss.
