Career highs from Arnatt and Tesfagiorgis power Vikes past WolfPack

VICTORIA – The University of Victoria men's basketball team ran away with a 76-47 win over Thompson Rivers University, Feb. 7 at CARSA Performance Gym.
 
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Boag's scoring leads Vikes in first quarter
  • Ethan Boag scored the first 11 Vikes points of the game, giving the home side an 11-10 advantage with 2:16 to go in the first frame.
  • A three from Renoldo Robinson and layup from Sam Maillet capped a 7-0 run for the Vikes to end the first and put Victoria ahead 16-10 after the opening 10 minutes of play.
Vikes run away in final three quarters
  • Five points from Griffin Arnatt put the Vikes ahead by 11, 21-10, in the opening minutes of the second quarter.
  • Though TRU pulled back within four, 25-21, with 3:30 to go in the second, an 8-0 run by the Vikes over the final three and a half minutes from two three-pointers by Aaron Tesfagiorgis and a Sergio Pereira layup gave the Vikes the 33-21 lead at halftime.
  • A 13-0 Vikes run in the third quarter helped expand their lead, getting eight points from Arnatt, two each from Maillet and Robinson, and one from Pereira for the 51-27 Vikes lead with just under two minutes to go in the third.
  • Holding a 56-32 lead at the end of the third, the Vikes outscored the WolfPack 20-15 in the final frame to bring the final score to 76-47. 
WORTH NOTING
  • Aaron Tesfagiorgis led the Vikes with a career-high 22 points, including a game-high six made three-pointers. He added six rebounds, two assists, and a Vikes-high four steals in the win.
  • Griffin Arnatt posted a career-high 21 points for the Vikes in the win, also contributing eight rebounds, one steal, and one block for Victoria.
  • Sergio Pereira led the Vikes in rebounds and blocks with 10 and two, respectively.
  • The Vikes improve to 17-0 on the year with the win, while the WolfPack move to 10-9 with the loss.
