VICTORIA – The University of Victoria women's basketball team held off a late comeback effort from Thompson Rivers University, taking a 43-40 win to open the weekend, Feb. 7 at CARSA Performance Gym.

Vikes erase first quarter deficit to tie at halftime
- Though a free throw from Karis de Paiva opened the game scoring, the WolfPack scored the next 10 points to take a 10-1 lead with six minutes to go in the opening frame.
- Back-to-back buckets from Jenna Talib followed by a pair of free throws by Natalie Allison brought the Vikes back within three, 10-7, with 3:22 still to play in the first.
- Thompson Rivers held the 15-7 lead over the Vikes at the end of first.
- A three from Allison and five-straight points from Abigail Becker opened the Vikes' second quarter scoring, pulling the home side within two, 17-15, with 6:27 on the clock.
- de Paiva knocked down two free throws in the final minute of action to cap a 5-0 run and pull the Vikes even, 21-21, at halftime.
WolfPack comeback attempt stopped in second
- A three-point play from Jade Dittmer gave the Vikes the 24-21 lead in the opening minute of the third quarter.
- Free throws from Becker, de Paiva, and Tegan Michel helped grow the Vikes' lead to 33-26 with 3:11 to go in the third.
- Both sides nearly went scoreless for the final three minutes of the frame, but a TRU basket in the final seconds brought the Vikes' lead to 33-28 after 30 minutes.
- An 8-2 Vikes run on a Dittmer three, Allison free throw, and jumpers by Michel and Becker gave Victoria its first double-digit lead of the night, 41-30, with 4:45 to go.
- The WolfPack would use the final 4:45 to go on a 10-2 run, however, the Vikes' lead would hold to come away with the 43-40 win.
WORTH NOTING
- The Vikes had no double-digit scorers in the win, but were led by nine points each from Jade Dittmer, Natalie Allison, and Abigail Becker. Dittmer's nine points marked a season-high.
- Becker and Karis de Paiva led the rebounding efforts with 13 and 11, respectively.
- The Vikes 21.2% shooting (11-52) marked their lowest percentage of the season in a win.
- Victoria moves to 10-7 on the year, while the WolfPack drop to 1-18.
