Calgary, A.B. – The University of Victoria men's soccer team took their first loss of the season 2-1 against the University of Calgary, Sep. 21 at McMahon Stadium.
Vikes score the opener
- Off a corner from Connor Legge, Yassin Guitouni rushed to the front post and headed the ball past the keeper. The early goal pushed the Vikes out to an early lead in the 8th minute of the game.
Calgary buried an equalizer
- On a long through ball, Calgary was stopped on their first striking attempt, but the rebound bounced back out for a point-blank shot. On this attempt the Dinos were successful in finding the back of the net.
Dinos take the lead
- A Dinos' defender fed a long stretch pass to a streaking forward who only had the goalie to beat, and he make no mistake. The Dinos took their first lead of the game 2-1.
Scoreless second half
- Both teams had several scoring chances in the second half but both goaltenders stood tall turning away each one. The Vikes made a push for a tying goal late in game but had their efforts blocked by the Dinos' defenders.
The Vikes will return to action at home against the University of British Columbia Okanagan on Sep. 26 at 7:15p.m.
