VICTORIA – The University of Victoria women's field hockey team picked up a 5-0 win over the University of Calgary, Sept. 27 at Lynne "Buzz" Beecroft Field.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Vikes score five while shutting out the Dinos
First quarter
- After early pressure from Calgary in the opening minutes, Victoria earned the first short corner of the game. Moments later, Sadie Lee put the Vikes on the board with a goal off the penalty corner in the fifth minute.
- Ava Winter doubled the Vikes' lead with a penalty stroke in the 12th minute, sending UVic into the quarter break up 2-0.
Second quarter
- Victoria broke through in the 29th minute when a Jaden Dawson breakaway found Amanda Adams in front of the net to score and give the Vikes a 3-0 advantage at halftime.
- The Vikes saw back-to-back short corner opportunities, but couldn't covert against tough pressure from the Dinos.
Third quarter
- Just over four minutes into the second half, Maddie Hunter collected her own rebound and scored her first career goal, making it 4-0 for the Vikes.
Fourth quarter
- In the 51st minute, a beautiful cross field pass from Josie Dunham sailed to Adams who set up Dawson, who capitalized on a 2-1 to push the lead to 5-0.
- The Vikes kept pressing until the final whistle to secure the shutout victory.
WORTH NOTING
- Maddie Hunter scored her first career goal as a Vike.
- Goalkeeper Talia Pike made her first appearance in net this season subbing in for Anais Chace in the final quarter.
- The Vikes remain undefeated and move to 4-0-1 on the season, while the Dinos fall to 0-5-0 with the loss.

"I thought we played well for three out of four quarters. Calgary applied a lot of pressure in the third quarter, so we made a few adjustments that helped. But overall, a good team effort."
