Victoria, BC – The University of Victoria women's soccer team prevail over the University of Northern British Columbia 4-1 at Centennial Stadium, Sep. 27.
Vikes break the stalemate
- In the 23rd minute, a Timberwolves' pass was intercepted and led to a Scarlett McNeely one on one. McNeely passed it off to Ruby Nicholas streaking in unmarked. Nicholas finished it for the first goal of the game and her second of the season.
Vikes kept the pressure on and finished opportunity
- In the 34th minute, off a pass from Nicholas, Sophie Murphy battled to get her shot off in the box. Her shot surprised the keeper and beat her underneath the crossbar to make it a 2-0 Vikes' lead. This was Murphy's first goal of the season.
Some creativity led to the Vikes' third goal of the game
- Off a set piece in the 52nd minute, a double header led to the Vikes' third goal of the game. Ruby Nicholas delivered a high corner kick to which was headed by Jaden Hanison as a pass to Claire Nicholas who deflected it into the top corner. This would be Claire's first of the season and it make it a 3-0 game in the Vikes' favour.
UNBC battles back
- The pressure of the Timberwolves pays off as they bury their first goal of the season and cut the Vikes' lead to 3-1.
Vikes buried one more for good measure making it 4-1.
- Off a free kick set piece in the 79th minute, Makayla Peluso delivered a long cross into the box. Raina Hagel went up challenged the keeper for the floating ball. She was able to win the race and score her first of the season.
The Vikes move to 3-2-3 with the win, while the Timberwolves fall to 0-9-1. The Vikes will return to the pitch on Friday, Oct. 3, against Thompson Rivers University at Centennial Stadium.
