VICTORIA - The University of Victoria women's field hockey team capped off a weekend sweep with a 6-0 victory over the University of Calgary, Sept. 28 at Lynne "Buzz" Beecroft Field.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
First quarter
- Julia Boraston created the best chance of the quarter, driving the ball into the circle for Maddie Hunter, whose shot rattled off the crossbar.
- Neither side found of the back of the net, ending the first minutes with a 0-0 scoreline.
Second quarter
- Minutes into the quarter, the Vikes earned back-to-back penalty corners but couldn't break through the Dinos' defensive line.
- Sadie Lee finally broke through at the 25-minute mark to give the Vikes a 1-0 lead.
- Minutes later, Libby Hogg struck twice off back-to-back corners, extending the Vikes' lead to 3-0 heading into halftime.
Third quarter
- A Vikes corner at the 37-minute mark set up Julia Boraston, who unleashed a powerful, perfectly placed stroke from the top of the circle to extend the lead to 4-0.
Fourth quarter
- Sharp passing from the Vikes set up Josie Dunham, who scored off an assist from Jaden Dawson to make it 5-0.
- With under a minute remaining and a yellow card to Calgary to put UVic one player up, the Vikes took advantage as Maeve Connorton set up Sadie Lee for the final goal, sealing a 6-0 victory.

"I thought we played three good quarters today. We came out slow in the first quarter— Calgary played tough to hold us scoreless. Maeve [Connorton] played brilliantly today, controlling the midfield, disrupting Calgary and making big plays for us."
WORTH NOTING
- Libby Hogg and Sadie Lee now lead Canada West in goals scored on the season with five each. Hogg and Lee both scored twice in today's contest.
- Victoria saw eight goal scorers combined for 11 goals over the two games against Calgary, five of whom scored their first goals of the season.
- The Vikes remain undefeated and move to 5-0-1 on the season, while the Dinos fall to 0-6-0 with the loss.
