Victoria loses low-scoring battle with Trinity Western

Langley, BC – The University of Victoria women's basketball team lost 44-38 to Trinity Western University, January 17 at Langley Events Centre.
 
Vikes stifle the Spartans in the first half.
  • The Vikes got off to a hot start defensively, rendering the Spartans' offence mute. Trinity Western was held to four total points in the first quarter, followed by seven points in the second quarter.
  • Victoria scored 23 first-half points to build a 12-point halftime lead.
 
The second half had the roles reversed.
  • The second half had the Spartans' defence limiting the Vikes to single-digit points in each of the last two quarters. This stellar defence allowed Trinity Western to erase the Vikes' lead.
  • The Spartans were able to hold the lead, capturing the low-scoring 44-38 win.
 
Notables
  • The Vikes fall to 7-8, and the Spartans improve to 11-5.
  • Mimi Sigue led the Vikes in scoring with her 10 points.
  • Makena Anderson grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Vikes on the glass.
 
The Vikes will return home to host the UNBC Timberwolves on January 22 at CARSA Performance Gym.
