Vikes Weekly Preview – January 27, 2026

Men's Basketball (15-2)
January 30, 2026, at 7:30 pm
Vikes at UBCO (3-13), Kelowna, BC

Last Weekend Recap:
  • The Vikes had a perfect 2-0 week as they defeated UNBC and Thompson Rivers in a two-game homestand.
  • Against UNBC, both squads came to play. UNBC matched Victoria bucket for bucket in the first half.
  • The Vikes were forcing turnovers and capitalizing on the extra scoring chances, scoring 15 points off turnovers.
  • The Vikes outscored the Timberwolves 24-22 in the first and 22-20 in the second, escaping the first half with a narrow four-point halftime lead.
  • The Vikes' skills and relentlessness were too much for the Timberwolves' comeback attempt. The Vikes clung to their narrow lead and outlasted UNBC with a late offensive run to put the game away.
  • The Vikes displayed their winning pedigree as the Timberwolves played them close, but their talent shone when the game mattered most.
  • The late fourth-quarter run by Victoria secured the 86-79 win.
  • In the second game of the week, Thompson Rivers came out of the gate hot as they were the first to capture a sizeable lead. The WolfPack's early scoring run had them ahead 16-6 halfway through the first quarter.
  • As the first quarter neared a close, the Vikes had a scoring run of their own. Geoffrey James scored a hard-fought layup with the foul, followed by a deep three on the next possession. Closing the quarter on a 9-2 run, the Vikes seized a 23-22 lead.
  • The Vikes used the momentum from the end of the first quarter and parlayed that into a dominant second quarter.
  • The depth of Victoria was on full display as the scoring was relentless from both the bench players and the starters. The Vikes had seven players with five or more points as the second quarter ended with Victoria on top 41-36.
  • Both teams wanted to run to start the third quarter. The pace and scoring increased, making for a back-and-forth show for the fans.
  • Ryan Gallagher and Dylan Gage were making a large impact off the bench, both hitting key mid-range shots as the Vikes added five more to their lead. The third quarter ended with the Vikes on top 67-57.
  • The WolfPack continued to hang tough in the fourth quarter. The Vikes regularly extended the lead past 10 points, but each time the WolfPack would counter.
  • Ethan Boag put his imprint on the game as he was a force in and out of the arc. Boag's key buckets open the floodgates and propelled the Vikes to a game-sealing scoring run.
  • The stingy defence of Victoria held Thompson Rivers to a devastating four points through the first six minutes of the quarter, creating an insurmountable deficit.
