VICTORIA – As the University of Victoria men's soccer team prepares to host the 2026 U SPORTS Men's Soccer Championship, five Vikes have been recognized for their outstanding regular season performances with Canada West honours.
Defenders
Fin Tugwell and
Archie Tugwell, goalkeeper
Callum Weir, and midfielder
Evan Larson were all named Canada West All-Stars, while first-year midfielder
Griffin Leach earned a spot on the Canada West All-Rookie Team.
The recognition comes on the heels of a third-place finish in the Pacific Division. The Vikes will now prepare for the U SPORTS Championship at Centennial Stadium from Nov. 12-15 after seeing their Canada West playoff run end in the semifinals against UBC on Nov. 1.
Much of UVic's success this season has been built on a strong defensive foundation. Led by the Tugwell brothers and Weir, the Vikes allowed just 10 goals during the regular season, ranking among the conference's top defensive units.
For
Fin Tugwell, the honour is the fourth Canada West all-star selection of his career. The fifth-year captain and Pacific FC defender was named Canada West Defensive Player of the Year in 2024 and has established himself as one of the top defenders in U SPORTS.
Weir earns all-star recognition for the second time after also receiving the honour in 2024. The fourth-year goalkeeper posted a 0.87 goals-against average this season while continuing to build on an impressive resume.
The all-star nods are the first of the careers for both
Archie Tugwell and Larson. Larson has enjoyed a standout fifth season, starting every match and leading the Vikes offensively with 17 points on seven goals and three assists.
Leach rounds out the Vikes honourees after earning a place on the Canada West All-Rookie Team. The first-year midfielder from Powell River, B.C., appeared in all 15 regular season matches, recording two goals and three assists in his debut campaign.
The five selections mark one of the largest groups of Vikes men's soccer athletes to earn conference recognition in recent years and provide another indication of the depth and talent that has carried UVic into the national championship tournament.
