Vancouver, BC – The University of Victoria women's basketball team was defeated by the University of Alberta, 64-55, in their play-in game of the Canada West Playoffs, February 15 at War Memorial Gymnasium.
Vikes came out flying
- The first quarter was the Vikes' best start of the year. Natalie Allison and Makena Anderson got the team going, burying a long-range three-pointer each. Victoria's scoring success continued, sparking a 20-9 opening scoring run, establishing that the Vikes came to play.
- Alberta began to find their legs, making an effort to reestablish themselves in the game, but the Vikes remained tenacious on the defensive end of the floor. Victoria held on to their nine-point lead at halftime, ahead 32-23.
A different story in the second half
- The Pandas found their groove in the second half. Outscoring the Vikes by 11 in the third quarter and seven in the fourth.
- Alberta's scoring success flipped the game, changing all momentum. The Vikes were unable to find any consistency in scoring in the late stages of the game, surrendering the 64-55 loss.
Notables
This loss marks the end of a positive season for the Vikes women's basketball team. The team will return to action in the fall with a familiar cast of players as well as new faces for the fans to come cheer on.
