Celebrating success

Vikes women’s basketball continues to thrive through commitment, opportunity, and strong donor support. This season marked a major step forward in access and equity, with every student-athlete receiving an Athletic Financial Award, and all returning athletes seeing increased scholarship support—positively impacting wellbeing, focus, and performance.

Excellence on and off the court

Two student-athletes supported by the Ken Woods Scholarship earned major Canada West recognition:

  • Avery Geddes, Canada West Rookie of the Year and U SPORTS All-Rookie Team
  • Natalie Allison, Canada West Student-Athlete Community Service Award

These honours reflect the program’s core values of performance, leadership, academics, and community engagement.

Experiences that expand perspective

Donor support also made possible a transformative international exchange in Cuba, combining competition, training, cultural immersion, and community outreach. The experience strengthened team bonds, broadened global perspective, and reinforced the power of sport to build connection beyond the game.

Your impact

Scholarship support reduces financial pressure and allows student-athletes to fully engage in academics, training, leadership, and personal growth. From scholarships to global experiences, your generosity helps women’s basketball student-athletes compete with confidence, grow with purpose, and succeed—now and long after their final game.

From the team

Vikes Donor Impact varsity athletes

"Donors have made a big difference in my experience at UVic on the varsity basketball team, by making opportunities like travel, academics and team activities more accessible They’ve helped reduce financial stress and allowed me to focus on my performance and improvement on the basketball court and in my classes. Donors also helped bring our team closer together and allowed us to travel to places like Cuba to team-bond, but also learn about another culture."

- Avery Geddes

Vikes Donor Impact varsity athletes

“Donor support has had a direct and meaningful impact on my university experience as a student‑athlete. As a business student, being involved beyond basketball — both academically and within my community — is incredibly important to me. Receiving support has allowed me to fully engage in these opportunities.

As a Canada West Community Service Award recipient, I’ve been able to make a positive impact in my community, something that wouldn’t have been possible without donor support. Not having to work while balancing the demands of varsity basketball has given me the time and flexibility to focus on my studies and take on leadership roles, including my involvement with the Commerce Student Society.

This support has allowed me to grow into a more well‑rounded individual and better prepare for life beyond university. Donor funded  scholarships make it possible for me to show up as the best version of myself both on and off the court and fully embrace all aspects of the student‑athlete experience at UVic.”

- Natalie Allison
