Craig Beaucamp

  • Title
    Head Coach
Craig Beaucamp enters his 21st year as the head coach of the Vikes men’s basketball program in 2023-24. Following two seasons as an assistant coach for the Vikes, Beaucamp took over head coaching duties prior to the 2003-04 season, after the tragic and sudden death of former head coach Guy Vetrie.

A 17-3 record during 2022-23 Canada West play earned the Vikes the top seed in the Canada West tournament, where the Vikes went 3-0 to capture the program's second-straight banner, this time on home court. Earning a berth to the U SPORTS Final 8 tournament, as the No. 1 seed, the Vikes defeated UPEI in the quarterfinals to secure a fourth-place finish in the nation. Diego Maffia was named the Canada West Player of the Year, becoming just the second Vikes men's basketball player to win the conference MVP award since 2000.

Posting the team’s best Canada West record since the 2014-15 campaign, Beaucamp guided the Vikes to a 17-1 mark in league play and 21-3 overall record in 2021-22. The impressive campaign saw the Vikes go on a 19-game win streak en route to capturing the Canada West conference banner and its first appearance at the U SPORTS championship since 2015.

In 2019-20, Beaucamp led the Vikes to their then-best finish since the 2014-15 season with a 15-5 Canada West record and not only hosted, but won their first playoff game inside the CARSA Performance Gym when they defeated the Brandon University Bobcats 88-80, February 14.

In 2015, Beaucamp led the Vikes to a 15-5 regular season record, as the Vikes defeated Saskatchewan, 70-67, to win their first Canada West banner since 2006. The victory punched their ticket to their third-straight U SPORTS (formerly CIS) Final 8 appearance, advancing to the bronze medal game.

Under Beaucamp’s leadership, the Vikes appeared at the U SPORTS Final 8 for three-straight seasons (2013-2015), improving from a sixth-place finish in 2013 to back-to-back fourth-place finishes in 2014 and 2015.

Beaucamp has also been recoginzed as one of the top coaches in the conference several times. From 2011-14, he was named Canada West Coach of the Year, bringing his total to five. He was also named Coach of the Year following the 2003-04 and 2005-06 season.

Beaucamp earned his first national medal as head coach of the program in 2005-06, when he led the Vikes to the U SPORTS Championship final for the 11th time in program history. The Vikes entered the tournament as Canada West Champions, seeded No. 1 overall, and came away with the silver medal.

Prior to joining UVic, Beaucamp coached for nine seasons at Melfort Collegiate High School in Saskatchewan and also coached the Saskatchewan Juvenile Provincial team in 1999 and 2000.

Beaucamp is also familiar with the international circuit. He was the head coach for the U16 Canadian National Team that finished second at the 2017 FIBA U16 Americas Championship. Beaucamp was also an assistant coach for the 2017 senior men's national team for the 2017 FIBA Americup.  In 2006 and 2007 he was appointed the assistant coach of the Canadian junior men’s national team and in October of 2011, Beaucamp was selected to be an assistant coach for team Canada at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Beaucamp preaches hard work, fundamentals and a commitment to defence. He is a level four graduate of the National Coaching Certificate Program.

A native of Burnaby B.C., Beaucamp graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a bachelor’s degree, and obtained his Master of Education from the University of Victoria.

Beaucamp resides in Victoria with his wife, Tara Galloway, a former UVic Vike, and their two daughters Calli and Abby.
