University of Victoria Varsity Athletics

Dani Sinclair

Dani Sinclair was appointed head coach of the University of Victoria Vikes women's basketball program in April 2012 and enters her sixth season as head coach as of the Fall of 2018. After a one-year season as the associate coach, filling in for head coach Rich Chambers, Sinclair successfully took over the helm of a program. Sinclair brings a wealth of experience as a former player for both the McMaster Marauders and the UVic Vikes.

In the 2014-15 season, Sinclair led her team to a 13-7 season record to capture a Canada West playoff spot. At the playoffs, the Vikes won their first playoff series in over five years against Calgary to move on to the Quarter-Finals. In a close series against Thompson Rivers, the Vikes managed to win the series to qualify for the Canada West Final Four for the first time since 2007. Unfortunately, the Vikes were unable to advance to the CIS Final 8 as they fell to both UBC and Alberta in the finals.

Previously, Sinclair worked as an assistant coach with the UVic women from 2006-09 and in the 2009-10 season she was an assistant coach for the Dalhousie Tiger’s women’s basketball team. In 2010-11, Sinclair returned to Victoria as the assistant coach of the UVic women under coach Brian Cheng.

As a Marauder, Sinclair captured the 1998-99 CIS Rookie of the Year award and from 1998-01 was a three-time Ontario University Athletics (OUA) All-Star. In 2000-01, Sinclair was named McMaster University's Female Athlete of the Year.

After taking a season off and moving to Victoria for a change of pace, Sinclair was ready to close out her final two years of eligibility with the Vikes. In her first year with the UVic hoopsters, Sinclair captained the team to the 2002-03 CIS National Championship final. During the Vikes’ 2003-04 season, Sinclair was named a Canada West First Team All-Star as well as a First Team All-Canadian.

In October of 2011, Sinclair was appointed to be an assistant coach for Team Canada at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. Sinclair was also an assistant coach with the Under 16 Canadian national team that won a historic gold at the 2015 FIBA Americas tournament.

Sinclair was an assistant coach with the U-16 Cadette National Team that won gold at the FIBA Americas in Mexico, and qualified for the World Championship in Spain in Summer 2016.

A native of Guelph, Ont., Sinclair is a National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) level three coach, graduating from UVic with a bachelor’s degree in education.
