VICTORIA - CIS MVP #Kayla Dykstra# and the UVic Vikes women's basketball team play their first home games of the 2009-10 season this weekend when McKinnon Gym hosts the Guy Vetrie Memorial Tournament October 23-25.

SCOUTING THE UVIC VIKES
The Vikes kicked off the pre-season at the Cougar Classic in Regina last weekend. The Vikes lost to the host school, but scored convincing victories over Lethbridge Pronghorns (65-61) and Brandon Bobcats (78-45). Kayla Dykstra picked up right where she left off from a year ago as CIS MVP, as the senior post led the Vikes in scoring all three games with an average of 17 p/g.
SCOUTING THE WINDSOR LANCERS
The defending Ontario conference champs are on a roll this pre-season with three wins at Alberta's Panda Invitational. The Lancers defeated the host Pandas, Regina Cougars and Bishops's Gaiters by a combined margin of 39 points. Second year guard Bojana Kovacevic was named tournament MVP.
SCOUTING THE RYERSON RAMS
The resurgent Rams opened the pre-season at home with their Darcel Wright Memorial Classic. Ryerson went 2-1 with impressive wins over the UBC Thunderbirds (69-54) and Western Mustangs (80-68). Guard Lisa Goldring averaged 18 points and was named tournament All-Star.
SCOUTING THE MEMORIAL SEA-HAWKS
Memorial continues their plight westward after winning last weekend's Naismith Classic in Waterloo. The Sea-Hawks, who were Atlantic conference finalists last season, knocked off Concordia Stingers (63-50), Waterloo Warriors (55-49), and Fraser Valley Cascades (73-65). Grace Fishbein was tournament MVP.
