Anholt awesome in Vikes romp

VICTORIA - #Jane Anholt# scored a game high 16 points in the UVic Vikes women's basketball team's 65-50 romp over the visiting Ryerson Rams on day two of the Guy Vetrie Memorial Tournament.

BOXSCORE

Anholt had a hand in nearly half of the Vikes baskets. In addition to her 16 points, the fourth year guard from Victoria also dished out six assists. Ten of her points came during a Vikes 18-0 run that spanned the end of the first quarter and beginning of the second.

The Vikes switched to a 1-3-1 zone defence near the start of the second, which held Ryerson scoreless for a span of over eight minutes. When the Rams finally did score, the Vikes had built a 16-point lead and carried a 42-23 lead into the break.

"We really had good matchups in our zone and took away their strengths," said Anholt, "On offense, our inside game was so strong that it forced the other team to double inside, which opened up opportunities outside."

Vikes post players #Kayla Dykstra# and #Sarah Semeniuk# weathered double teams but still combined for 21 points. Dykstra scored 10 on 5-9 shooting, and also blocked four shots, while the rookie Semeniuk made 5-6 for an 11-point performance.

Ryerson's Lisa Goldring posted the high scoring totals for the visitors with 15 points. Angela Tilk helped the Rams to 41-35 rebounding average with 10 'boards.

Play concludes at the Guy Vetrie Memorial Tournament on Sunday with the Vikes hosting the Memorial Sea-Hawks. Memorial was the Atlantic conference runners-up last season. Tip-off is 11 a.m.
