CALGARY – The UVic Vikes men's soccer team clinched a berth in the Canada West postseason on Sunday with a 2-0 road victory over the Calgary Dinos.
#Cole McFarlane# broke a tight game wide open in the 70th minute, taking advantage of a miscue in the Dinos defense and chipped the ball over a sprawling Dinos netminder J.P. Crescenzi to find the far right side of the net.
Just two minutes later, the 2008 All-Canadian found himself yet again with ball in open space, this time in a 3-2 situation. Sending a beautiful pass across the crease of Crescenzi, forward #Kyle Kostis# slammed it home to make it 2-0.
Coupled with a Saturday victory over Lethbridge, Victoria moved ahead of Calgary by eight points with the win, and moved into third in Canada West.
In the winning effort, Vikes 'keeper #Dan Kilpatrick# made seven saves and moves his team to 7-5-1 on the season. The Vikes close out their season with one more match against the Fraser Valley Cascades in Abbotsford next Saturday.
