ABBOTSFORD - #Jordie Oberg# scored a pair of goals to lead the UVic Vikes men's soccer team to a 2-0 shutout of the Fraser Valley Cascades in the regular season finale.
Oberg scored in the 22nd and 41st minutes to secure a third place finish for the Vikes. The no. 10 Vikes enter the post-season sporting an 8-5-1 record and will either play the Trinity Western Spartans or UBC Thunderbirds, pending the outcome of Sunday's games.
The goals were the first for Oberg since netting three through the first four games of the season. His tally in the 21st minute came on a crossing pass from #Miguel Romeo#. Defender #Patrick Nelson# setup the second score.
Goalkeeper #Dan Kilpatrick# picked up his third consecutive shutout, after making two saves. The Winnipeg native now leads the Canada West conference with five clean sheets and has not allowed a goal since October 17th.
The Canada West playoffs begin next weekend, November 7-8, with the top four teams competing for one available berth to the CIS Championship. The team with the best regular season record hosts. The Vikes are defending Canada West champions.
